Description

NGC 2997 is a grand design spiral galaxy and the brightest galaxy in the southern constellation of Antlia. It lies about 40 million light years away, and it is inclined about 45 degrees from our viewpoint. NGC 2997 is also the most prominent member of the NGC2997 group of galaxies within the local supercluster (Kanipe and Webb 2016:221–223 and O'Meara 2013:159–162).
