Description

The large and beautiful "Rosette" nebula is a bright emission nebula in the Monoceros constellation.
This vast nebula extends to an area covering over a degree across (about 5 times the area of the full moon)
At first glance it is pretty obvious why this nebula is known as the "rosette" ... but upon closer inspection, many see a skull (rotate this version 90 clockwise if you can't see it at first!)

The open cluster of stars in the middle of the nebulosity are NGC 2244.

This image is a 'Hubble Palette' SHO representation, with natural (RGB Stars).
Red = SII (Sulphur)
Green = HA (Hydrogen)
Blue = OIII (Oxygen)

I used a colour camera, and 3 sets of exposures to capture this data:
unfiltered exposures - for natural RGB star colours
optolong L-Ultimate filter - captures HA in the red pixels .. and OIII with the green / blue pixels
Idas NB3 - captured SII with red pixels, and more OIII with the green / blue pixels
