Description

I seldom do galaxies given the LP (Bortle 7) in my area and the limited clear nights, but I wanted to give this beautiful galaxy a try.  Shooting at f/10 with a 0.27 arcsec/pixel scale can be a challenge, but I think it came out ok.

Messier 63 (M63), also known as NGC 5055, and sometimes informally called the Sunflower Galaxy, is a spiral galaxy in the northern constellation of Canes Venatici with approximately 400 billion stars.   It has an apparent magnitude of 9.3 and is roughly 30 million light-years from Earth.  In 1971, a supernova with a magnitude of 11.8 appeared in one of the arms.
