Description

My first capture of a planetary nebula was also the first to be discovered by Charles Messier in 1764. If the interstellar molecular clouds are similar to stellar nurseries M 27 is a stellar tomb, the tomb of stars like the sun.

Located about 1,200 light-years away from Earth, the Dumbbell Nebula is the final stage of any star that has between 0.8 and 8 solar masses. In the center of the nebula lies a white dwarf star, extremely hot, remnant of the expulsion of their own outer layers. The brightness of fuzzy due to high-energy radiation absorption of the central star and its reissue the visible spectrum, most of which are issued in a single spectral line centered on green double generated by ionization of oxygen.

Planetary nebulae are important objects in astronomy, who play a crucial role in the chemical evolution of galaxies, freeing the interstellar medium heavy metals and other products of nucleosynthesis of stars (such as carbon, nitrogen, oxygen and calcium), essential elements for the formation of life.
