Description

The M27 Dumbbell Nebula (also catalogued as NGC 6853) is known as the firstly discovered planetary nebula by Charles Messier in 1764. This is at a distance of about 1,360 light years away towards the constellation Vulpecula. The surrounding interstellar gases ionized by the central blue star (white dwarf) are indicated by various emission lines, such as [O III] (doubly ionized oxygen of 500.7 nm and 495.9 nm), Hα+[N II] (656.3 nm and 658.4 nm, respectively) and [S II] (672.4 nm), etc. This time I just synthesized the bi-color image by using [O III] and Hα+[N II] lines because of the limited time of a summer night session. Hence, I will add the [S II] channel as well as more deep exposures in the future.
