Description

NGC 6781 is a striking planetary nebula in the constellation Aquila that is seldom imaged. Visually, I can verify that it's disappointing, even in a 12" Dob at a good dark sky site, so I think few people get the idea to image it. However, it's a real stunner photographically. NGC 6781 is only 1.9 arcminutes wide and shines at 11.4 magnitude overall, so it's best suited for long focal length imaging.

This LRGB image combines 7.7 hours of integration time over three nights, and the skies were very steady. Luminance was taken binned 1x1 in 450s subs (0.55"/pixel), and color was taken binned 2x2 in 180s subs. The seeing was so good that the color frames were undersampled at 1.11"/pixel.NGC 6781 is a striking planetary nebula in the constellation Aquila that is seldom imaged.
