Continued imaging of Venus during the 2021 evening apparition. These images were captured on the night of November 8, 2021. Venus was 28.2 arcsec in diameter and ~43.9% illuminated in this image. Taken around sunset under average seeing conditions. First capture of the night was OSC RGB with the ASI 224MC (my standard setup for the 2020 Venus apparition):
https://astrob.in/jd4btc/0/This second series of captures was taken with the mono ASI 174MM using IRpass and UV filters. I started working on mono imaging of Venus last year with the goal of imaging cloud structure. Last time around I tried various near UV filters (e.g. W47, BG39) without much luck. I picked up an Astrodon Johnson/Cousins UV Photometric filter for the 2021 apparition with the hopes of better results. No breakthroughs yet, but maybe a little structure in the UV image. Imaging in UV is tough with all the UV losses in my setup, the long integration times, and the very low altitude of Venus this year.
Imaged with a C8 Evo, ZWO ADC, Baader IR 685 nm pass and Astrodon Johnson/Cousins UV Photometric filters, and ZWO ASI174MM. Imaging train was configured to give ~F/20. Image capture using Firecapture (see below for exposure settings). Stacking in AutoStakkert3 (best 2% of frames captured). Wavelet sharpening in Registax6. Derotated and combined images in WinJUPOS.
