Description

Helping Hand Nebula is a collection of dark and reflection nebula in Cassiopeia. The prominent star below the hand is SU Cassiopeiae, which is a mag 5.49 Cepheid variable that lights up VdB9, the beautiful blue reflection nebula. The other promient star in the lower right is RZ Cassiopeiae,  which is a mag 6.2 main sequence star that that is adjacent to VdB 7, the red-tinged nebulosity to its left. The dark nebula of the hand is composed of LDN 1357 (bottom finger) and above to the right, LDN 1355 (forming the palm).  LDN 1358 is seen up and to the right, forming the "shoulder" in this orientation.
