Description

It was eventually a clear night but with gusty 15 to 25mph winds so I decided to shoot wide. Vintage 90mm macro lens at f 5.8 results in the iris blades shaping the stars. That made it challenging to get focused with a Bhatinov mask along with the blades. I think I will fare better  next if I open up the lens to 2.8 while focusing so the iris will be round then stop back down to 5.8. Wide open the lens has some CA. I've learned to live/love with the star shapes. Even with the winds and the seeing, my guiding was pretty good. I might add some narrowband to bring out the HA of Barnard's loop a bit more.
HDRMLT saved M42's core.
