Description

Happy New Year to one and all -
This image exemplifies what we all face with astrophotography - the best camera is the one you have, or the the best image is the one that you are capable of obtaining with the conditions at hand.  In northern Michigan this time of year, viewing let alone imaging opportunities are fleeting. Crystal clear conditions the night before were no match for a stiff 20 mph N wind. I don't mind cold whatsoever, but you know when it is not worth the effort to set up an imaging session.  The next night, a transient 90 minute clear sky window yielded this view, though still a bit breezy as seen with the reflected stars.  These unguided tripod DSLR images take me back to what engaged me early on, and what probably pulls most of us into the hobby the first time; the hint of "way more out there" than what the naked eye can see.
