Description

NGC 6188 Nebula (in SHO)

Description:
- This image is part of the NGC 6188 nebula which is also known as the Fighting Dragons of Ara. You cannot really see the claws in this subset.
- The full nebula is nearly 22 light years across and is a mixture of young stars and emission nebula. It is 3,800 light years away from Earth.
- This version is based on narrowband data. It is a combination of captured frames using the narrow bandwidths of Hydrogen (Alpha), Oxygen and Sulphur which have been merged to form the image. It can be considered to be artifical colour. This approach captures more structure in the nebula.

Details:
- Captured on 18-Jun-22.
- Celestron Edge 11 (280mm aperture, focal length 2800mm, f/10).
- ZWO ASI1600MM Pro monochrome camera (cooled to -10 DegC).
- EQ8Rh Pro mount, ASIair.
- 8x 300sec captures of each of S, H and O images, using Astrodon 5nm filters (2 hours).
- 10x 300sec each of Dark frames, then calibration frames of Flats, Flat Darks and Bias.
- Processed in PixInsight and Topaz Sharpen AI.
- Image size and resolution reduced for Facebook.

Location:
- APT Building, Siding Spring Observatory, Coonabarabran, NSW, Australia.
