Description

The galaxy NGC4489 is just the visual center of this huge galaxy cluster in the constellation Coma Berenices. The cluster contains well over 1000 galaxies, most of them more than 320 Mio LJ distant from Earth. NGC4489 itself is only about 60Mio LJ distant from Earth, so one of the closest ones. Together with NGC4874, NGC4489 are the two brightest objects in that cluster - for us, they belong to that cluster, but that is only a visual projection from our position.
Most of what at first glance seems to be a star, is a galaxy - just look closely. Very difficult to grab with a 12" RC but I tried it. Weather did not really cooperate as much as I hoped, so there is room for improvement of the result
