Description

First image of the new imaging season, 5 x 1200s H-Alpha and 5 x 1200s O3. I used H-Alpha as Red, O3 as Blue, and a combination of H-Alpha and O3 as Green.
It was a night with some cirrus clouds, so I need to get more image data, but the nights are still very short.

So I collimated the scope, and tried again the next night, 5 x 1200s of H=Alpha and O3 under much better conditions.

This is also the region of Radio Source Cygnus X-1 caused by a small black hole circling a star. This star is the mag. 9 star HDE 226868. This star is visible as the bright white star to the right of the bottom side of the nebula, you can find it labelled using mouse-over on the image. It's about a quarter of the way from the right and bottom side of the image, just below V1674 Cyg.

In the last view (Revision D) I removed the stars using StarNet, and substituted HDE226868 in the image. The bow shock above it is easier to see now
