Description

The weather has been pretty cruel the last 3 months. Mother Nature always enjoys a good joke and the first row of clear nights I've had were close to the Full Moon. The only possibility left was to target some bright planetary nebula in narrowband and M97, the Owl Nebula, was a good candidate, located in Ursa Major. I was pleasently surprised that the oxygen halo appeared after stacking, in spite of the LP and moonlight. I tried all kinds of formulas and narrowband palettes (variations of HOO) and this is the best I could come up with. The Owl appeared even on the 3 hours subs for the RGB stars, pretty close to the mix I produced in narrowband. I began the acquistions on Mars 22nd, over 7 nights. I threw away around 7 hours of data due to insufficient quality .

The Owl Nebula is situated approximately 2,030 light years away in Ursa Major. It has been discovered in 1781 by Pierre Méchain, Messier's colleague. Its age is estimated to be around 8000 years and its radius 0.9 ly (Wikipedia).

PS: small initial error (corrected), the camera was my new ASI 183MM not my faithful ASI1600. The first narrowband image with the 183MM.
