Description

PN G086.1 +05.4 is a planetary nebula also known as Weinberger 1-10. The central white dwarf at the origin of this nebula has a magnitude about 18. The surrounding  Ha region is LBN 381.

Weinberger 1-10 is often exhibited as a blue ball in pictures shown in Astrobin. I guess, a nice blue spot lost in red nebulae sells better... . No offense, we have to respect any aesthetic choice, otherwise this hobby is no longer fun. However, it is NOT blue. The Ha signal is at least as strong as the OIII part. This is why I did not make artificial bubble masks with blue popping out, I prefer a more natural aspect although we know that all our pictures are highly stretched and anyway in most of the cases not of scientific interest. I write this because I recently had a discussion with a french amateur doing spectroscopy with professionals on recently discovered PNs and he told me how misleading some pictures can be sometimes. Not easy, always a trade-off to make, scientific images are not beautiful and beautiful pictures are not scientific. Mine is neither scientific nor very beautiful, so no regret .
7 hours of Ha and OIII data (yes it is faint, could stand more exposure time for sure but life is short and other targets are waiting ) and RGB with 20s subs for the stars. As there is very few OIII signal in the surrounding nebulae I exceptionally mixed a bit Ha in the green channel.
All the best, Andreas
