Description

The data for this image was gathered at the 3RF Comanche Springs Astronomy facility near Crowell, Texas in July 2013. This is over 6 hours of data of the HII region identified as number 115 in the 1959 catalog of faint emission nebula by Stewart Sharpless. Also known as SH2-115, this faint nebula lies along the edge of one of the Milky Way's giant molecular clouds. The stars in this nebula are about 100 million years old and are still embedded in the nebula. The nebula is caused to glow by stars in the star cluster Berkley 90. The small round object toward the upper right in the image is identified as Abell 71. Although originally thought to be a planetary nebula, Abell 71 is now thought to be an extension of the HII region of Sh2-155. It is also known as Sh2-156.
