Description

This is my first attempt at a high-resolution mosaic of the moon and I underestimated the amount of time, photos, effort and ultimately disk-space that this will take, so it is only a partial mosaic. My laptop only has a 1TB hard drive and I already had done some imaging of Saturn and Jupiter so literally ran out of disk space to complete the moon mosaic, but the moon was also dipping down into the trees as well.  I'll have to plan this better next time, but this is a good start.

Obsession 20" F5 with TeleVue PowerMate 2X extender, so effective focal length is 5,112mm @ f/10
ZWO ASI585MC camera, so each panel is 4K image.
I manually slewed the scope for each panel, so the overlap was estimated by eye.
30 seconds per panel at max speed of camera, which is 47fps
I managed to get 46 panels, but only 45 of them were successfully used in the mosaic.
Each panel was individually stacked in Autostakkert (10%), wavelets in Registax, cropped manually to get clean rectangle and then mosaic merged in Microsoft Image Composite Editor.  I would have liked to have been able to use wavelets on entire image, but Registax can't work with images this large.
I did some simple post-processing in Photoshop.

In all, this is a 207 megapixel photo, and it is only a partial mosaic.
