Description

NGC253,  or the Sculptor Galaxy, is one of the brightest galaxies in our sky.  It is an intermediate spiral galaxy in the constellation Sculptor and is roughly 11 million light years away form us.

The Sculptor Galaxy is classified as a starburst galaxy which means there is intense star formation currently occurring within.  Several super star clusters (thought to be precursors for globular clusters) are present arranged in an ellipse around the central bulge.  Starburst galaxies such as NGC253 that experience strong star formation tend to have material blown out into the galactic halo by stellar superwinds from super massive stars and their eventual supernovas.  Curiously, only one supernova has been observed in the Sculptor Galaxy.

While conditions have been slowly improving in Chile, seeing still is not optimal.  I tried to overcome this to some extent with brute force on the integration time and careful processing.  I am pretty pleased with the result.  I hope you like it.
