Description

Only 500 light years distant, the Boogie Man is too close for comfort!   The ominous dark foreground lies over a red background containing ionized hydrogen.   Also seen is a bit of foreground reflection nebulosity.   The boogie man himself is composed of dense dust and gas, so dense that the light from background stars is completely blocked.     Part of the Orion molecular cloud, the nebula is pretty hard to image given how close it is to us.    The nebula can be found between Alnitak and Betelgeuse, not far from M78.
