Description

NGC 4236 is magnitude 10.5 barred spiral galaxy in the constellation of Draco. It is thought to be part of the M81 galaxy group and is 14.5 million light years from Earth. It is large from our point of view, at 21.9 x 7.2 arc minutes, but also pretty dim since its mag 10 light is spread over a large surface area.

Optics: Starizona Hyperion f/8 12.5 inch, FL 2540 mm on Paramount ME

Camera: Apogee U8300 for Lum

Guiding: ST-402 on Innovations Foresight On-Axis Guider and STL-11000 Self guiding

Exposure: LRGB - L:51x10, R:16x10 min, G:16x10 min, B:16x10 min - Total 12.5 hrs Avg Exp 455 sec

Processing: Image acquisition using CCD Autopilot. Initial processing was done using Maxim DL with subsequent processing with Photoshop.
