Description

I captured this data between 15 and 27 September at Sierra-Remote Observatories this year.
1. Total Integration consisted of about 3h SHO, 1h each (480s subframes) and 1h of RGB (30s subframes).
2. Pre-processed with WBPP, including registration. I then finished pre-processing with integration in PI.
3. Unscreened and discarded stars in the SHO masters using Russell Croman's StarXTerminator.
4. Processed RGB frames separately and used Russell Croman's BlurXTerminator and StarXTerminator to make an RGB star image.
5. Combined the SHO Masters using PixelMath (PM). After several experiments with different PM versions, I settled on a simple SHO = RGB combination to make a starless background image.
6. Used Russell Croman's NoiseXTerminator to denoise the SHO background image.
7. Used PixelMath to combine the RGB stars and the SHO image.

After testing several versions of SHO with PixelMath manipulation of color channels, I settled on a simple SHO = RGB version. This image is a jumble of color, attributable to the jumble of gases in the surrounding nebulosity, which in this SHO is relatively well differentiated regarding it’s composition of high levels of all the different gases. In contrast, the Crescent reveals its largely oxygen shell in this version and is a very nice teal color. I think this is my favorite version.

I have been sharing data with Kevin Cox (of California Seahorse fame), and I suspect he will submit a version of this image with a different take and, perhaps, some more creative and inventive processing. We'll see.
