Description

NGC 6964 also known as the Fireworks Galaxy is a face on spiral galaxy about 25 million light years away from earth. this galaxy is known as a Starburst Galaxy both due to the many nebulous star forming regions (pinking areas in this image) and also In the last Century 10 supernovae have been observed. The galaxy is approximately 40,000 light years across which is approximately one-third the size of the milky way.

This galaxy is has been a challenge to image as it sits very close to the milky ways galactic plane so is obscured by interstellar dust which dims the brightness of this galaxy.
