Description

Super Nova RS Oph has come back and made a bold appearance.  According to Space Weather.com it is known as a "recurrent nova".  It is only one of seven such star systems in the whole Milky Way galaxy known to produce such explosions.
It is a binary system with a  white dwarf and a red giant.  Every few decades the dwarf star pulls enough matter from the larger red giant, that a supernova occurs.  The last time this happened was in 2006.
This image is just a single 120 sec red filtered exposure.  No processing was done other than stretching.  I did collect a full RGB run that I will process later.
It's return was discovered on August 8, 2021 by a fellow amateur astronomer.

I processed the RGB subs and photometrically calibrated the image in PixInsight.

11x120 sec Red
10x120 sec Green
10x120 sec Blue
