Description

The iconic Horsehead and Flame Nebula is a target I’ve wanted to shoot since Moby Dick was a minnow. It just barely clears the tops of my neighbor’s trees for a few hours each night. This emission nebula is about 1,375 light years from Earth and you’ll be surprised where it resides. That bright hot blue super giant star with the halo just left of center is Alnitak, which is the easternmost (left-most) star of Orion’s belt. It’s not visible with the naked eye unfortunately, even in the darkest skies.
