Description

A two panel mosaic of the Cygnus Loop from my backyard in Los Angeles. This is my first mosaic which was necessitated by switching my Sony A7 III from full frame to APS-C mode. My 80mm refractor and the 0.8x reducer/flattener have a lot of internal reflections and severe vignetting when imaged with full frame. The APS-C mode guarantees I stay within the usable bounds of the image circle and boy is it nicer to process when I can avoid all the vignetting and maintain a completely even field after flat fielding.

Because of the narrower field of view, I had to take two panels to get the entirety of the Cygnus Loop. I spent the most time trying to figure out how to stitch the panels together but eventually I found that I could get Photoshop to do it for me and the result was pretty nice!
