Description

The Planetary Nebula Messier 97 & the barred spiral galaxy Messier 108 are the well known celestial duo in the constellation Ursa Major, M97 is also known as Owl nebula as it looks round in shape along with the placement of two large, dark "eyes" that resembles the face of a staring owl. M97 is about 8000 years old and it is approximately 2030 light-years away from earth. Among the duo, the more distant is M108 which is also known as the Surfboard galaxy as it is seen nearly edge-on with no apparent bulge or pronounced core. M108 is an isolated member of the Ursa Major Cluster of galaxies in the local supercluster. It is around 45 million light-years away from Earth and running away from us at 772 kilometers per second, M108 is rich in dark dust, star-forming regions, and a supershell.
