Description

The Tulip Nebula (Sh 2-101) is a bright emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It was cataloged by astronomer Stewart Sharpless in his 1959 catalog of nebulae. It lies at a distance of about 6,000 light-years from Earth. [Source: Wikipedia]

Glowing with the light of hydrogen alpha emission, the tulip shape emerges from an already bright nebular region dense with stars, dust and gasses. It resides in the first stellar region shown to contain a black hole.

Captured over several rare clear nights in the midst of pervasive overcast that has plagued my little corner of So. Cal. this summer.
