Wanted to see if I could get a better image of Stephan's Quintet than the one from 3 years ago. Still lots of smoke from western wildfires. Synched from β Peg but the goto was off a bit to the south; Astrotortilla allowed me to re-synch and this time the goto was right on. Imaged up the meridian, playing with the balance to try to improve RA guiding without much success. After meridian flip, I tried west-biased weighting, also without much success. This image was very heavily stretched and processed in an attempt to compensate for weak data.

Mount: CG-5 (Synta motors, PicGoto Simplificado)

Guiding: 9x50 Finder/Guider + DSI Ic + PHD 2.5.0.1 (Win 7 ASCOM)

Camera: DSI IIc no cooling (about 23 °C)

Acquisition: Nebulosity 4.0.2, no dither

Exposure: 32x600 s

Stacking: Neb 4.0.2, bad pixel map, bias included, 33 flats, OSC nebula filter, histogram match, deBayer & square, align, DSS κ-σ stack with κ=1.75.

Processing: StarTools 1.3.5.289 Crop; Wipe: 76%; Develop: 80.65%; HDR:Equalize; Color:Scientific, 250%; Deconvolute 4.6 pix; Life: moderate; Track 9.0 pix, smoothness 88%; Magic, shrink 1 pix; Repair: warp; Contrast. Photoshop CC 2014 + Carboni Astronomy Tools repeated layer-masked deep space and space noise reduction followed by less crunchy more fuzzy; levels; liquify-pucker on large stars; Astroframe.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.

Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
