Description

Sharpless 101, also called the Tulip nebula, is an H II region emission nebula located in the constellation Cygnus. It was catalogued by astronomer Stewart Sharpless in his 1959 catalog. It lies at a distance of about 6,000 light-years from Earth.

Sh2-101, at least in the field seen from Earth, is in close proximity to microquasar Cygnus X-1, site of one of the first suspected black holes. Cygnus X-1 is located just out of the field of view of the photo, which I forgot to frame properly.

That's one fail for the books, and to notice it 40 hours into the project. I considered creating a mosaic to have it included, but there isn't much else on that side of the tulip. Ah well...

I have taken this from my balcony though several nights in May and June 2021.

Clear Skies and stay safe!
