Description

M92 is a old globular cluster in Hercules, the second brighter behind the oustanding "Great Globular Cluster in Hercules" M13. If we compares the two globular clusters, M92 is a bit fainter (6.5 vs 5.8 mag) farther ( 26000 ly vs 22000 ly), and smaller in size (100 ly vs 145 ly)

M92 is a class IV globular Cluster, although M13 is only a class V, that is to say a rather dense cluster but one order less. Their absolute magnitude are similar (-8.21 vs -8.55), around 100 000 - 200 000 suns.

Its age is estimated around 16 billions of years, thus much more than the universe ! But its distance is may be over estimated of 10 %, leading to a 15 % overestimated age.

In 14000 years, M92 will be aligned with the polar axis of the earth, because of the precession of Earth's axis.

Farther behind, tens ofgalaxies appears on the right, up to magnitude 18. But the small refractor used, the quite polluted sky (SQM around 19) didn't succeed to reveal them all. In fact, Hundreds of galaxies could be detected with a 10 inches telescope and a dark sky, up to magnitude 21.

For example NGC6329 is around 120 Mly of earth.
