Description

From July 2006 :

The galaxy season is past and for a while the milky way dominates the night sky. Cygnus contains a host of other interesting objects and some of my favourite deep sky objects - planetary nebulae.

Ngc 7048 lies not far from Deneb and is a superb planetary. At magnitude 11.3 it is not easy and it's central star (not visible in my image is a faint magnitude 18.3. It is 61" in diameter and lies about 3.6kly from us. With a little imagination I can see a faint ring structure. 65 x 60 second exposures through my 10"newtonian / MX5C combination yielded this image, which was acquired and processed in AstroArt.
