Description

The 1977 NGC is a reflection nebula and is 2.1 degrees northeast of the Orion Nebula and is part of the Orion molecular cloud complex, shown in a blue color, by a group of blue stars; it is the northernmost part of the asterism of the Orion Sword, and the final part of the northern cloud zone of Orion A. Its observation is possible from all populated areas of the Earth, thanks to the fact that it is a few degrees from the celestial equator.

It is the largest and southern section of a complex that also includes the nearby nebulae NGC 1973 and NGC 1975, and is the southernmost part of the largest region H II Sh-2279; the various parts are interspersed by dark fog, which prevent total vision and make it seem like a complex divided into several parts. The nebula reflects the light emitted by some visible stars in the central blue, emitting in turn a bluish light;
