Description

Sh2-284 is also often called "Little Elephants Trunk" or "The Pointing Finger". 👈, which is understandable when you take a closer look at the right side of the nebula.

The image also shows a small rarity, which I only noticed in the starless image, the very small planetary nebula "PN G212.6-00.0".
You can find it in the middle between Sh2-284 and the left edge of the image (look for  the small green arrow - you only can see it at full resolution). You won't find much on the net about the rather unspectacular "tiny thing".

I also find the supernova remnant "SNR G213.0-00.6" interesting, which expands to the bottom left starting from Sh2-284. The entire structure with other Sharpless objects is also called "Monoceros Arc".
Sh2-284 is ionized by the inconspicuous star cluster Dolidze 25 (Do 25).
