Description

The Crescent Nebula, NGC 6888, lies in the constellation Cygnus at a distance of about 5,000 light-years from Earth. The nebula is about 25 light-years across and is powered by it's central star WR 136, which is a Wolf-Rayet star that is ejecting it's outer layers. About 250,000 to 400,000 years ago, WR 136 ejected the initial stellar shell when it was a red giant. Now being categorized as a Wolf-Rayet star it's stellar winds have greatly increased, thus making this a very complex combination of ionized Ha, OIII, and SII emissions.

This data was acquired in August 2020 with Telescope Live's Officina Stellar ProRC 700/FLI PL 16803 at the IC Astronomy Observatory in Spain. This is a Pro Data Set containing 20 Ha@300s, 20 OIII@300s, and 10 SII@300s, for a total integration time of 4 hours 10 minutes. I deviated from the traditional Hubble Palette by mapping R=30%SII+70%Ha, G=15%SII+15%Ha+70%OIII, B=5%SII=5%Ha+90%OIII.....just for fun! It's processed with Pixinsight and tweaked with PS.

Anyway, hope ya like it!

Tom
