Description

NGC6334, Cats Paw Nebula or Gum 64, is a huge star forming region in the constellation of Scorpius. At about 5,500 light-years from us, it spans about 50 light-years, and covers more of the sky than the full moon. Star formation in this region is recent, but will not continue for more than a few million years. There are several thousand massive stars still embedded in the clouds of energised gas.
