Shown here is a widefield narrowband (Ha) image of the NGC7635 (Bubble Nebula) region in the constellation Cassiopeia.

The Bubble Nebula seen in the approximate center of this image is about 7 light years across and lies about 7,100 light years from the Earth. This cosmic bubble feature is formed by a super-hot star that is 45 times more massive than our Sun. The solar wind from this star sweeps up the cold, interstellar gas in front of it, forming the edge of the bubble much like a snowplow piles up snow in front of it as it moves forward. As the surface of the bubble's shell expands outward it slams into dense regions of cold gas on one side of the bubble. As a result of this asymmetry, the internal star appears dramatically off-center from the bubble, with its location about the 8 o'clock position in this view. Surrounding the bubble are dense clouds of cool hydrogen gas laced with dust that glow in the Hydrogen alpha range of the spectrum and appear in this image as a white cloud that surrounds the bubble.

Also visible in this image are the open star cluster M52 and NGC7538 , a stellar nursery for massive stars. Estimates of the distance to M52 to the Earth range from 3,000 to 7,000 light years. This cluster contains about 193 member stars of which the brightest is magnitude 11.

NGC7538 is located about 9,000 light years from the Earth.
