Description

I finally got the Celestron AVX back out under the stars in a role it can handle. I decided to give the Canon 6D DSLR with the newer model nifty fifty a ride.

This was an unguided / intervalometer run. I set it up and let it snap away at the Big Dipper for a while. The lens is not "premium" by any stretch of the imagination, so I cropped out a lot of ugliness and it was even stopped down significantly at f/4.5.

The image is at least interesting to get the sense of scale for the two largest galaxies in the frame. These are the often imaged, M51 and M101. Next time I look up, I can at least consider that these are big enough to be seen with the naked eye, just a bit too dim.

Enjoy something different for a change!
