Description

The OpticStar DS142-C uses a 1/2" (8mm diagonal) sensor which is some what small. This picture shows almost the whole frame with some of the edges cut off where dithered images did not overlap. The 50.9'x38.4' field of view with this small sensor using the HyperStar 0.21x reducer is about the same as what you would get with an APS-C DSLR and a 0.63x reducer on the same 8" SCT telescope. Because of the small 2.2"x2.2" pixel scale, the HyperStar exposure times are not much different from using a camera on the back end of the telescope (the uploaded photo was cropped and resized to fill a 1920x1080 pix screen). Because I'm using a one shot color camera on such a small object I used drizzle color synthesis to get as much resolution as possible, however, it does not have as much detail as using a monochrome camera with LRGB filters.
