Description

An image from my new Rokinon 135mm f/2 lens -- the Rosette Nebula!!

The target is special to me because it was the subject of what I deem to be my first "actually good" deep sky image back in February 2017. (Other people decided it was good too -- I got 2nd place in the Deep Sky category of the Astronomical League's Astronomy Imaging Award in 2017!)

This is my first time doing it with such a wide field in this area, and I am very pleased to have gotten some nice background nebulosity as well. Remember, I am shooting from Bortle 7, just north of San Francisco and Oakland!!

The Rosette Nebula is a large cloud of gas and dust 130 lightyears across in the constellation Monoceros, next door to Orion, and lies about 5,200 lightyears away from Earth. It's a stellar nursery consisting of loads of hydrogen gas that glows a deep red as a result of being energized by the hot, young stars within.
