Description

This small nebula is located next to IC1848 - Soul Nebula
It is a compact H II region with an apparently bipolar shape, located at a distance of approximately 9980 light years, above the Perseus Arm in the same region as the W3/W4/W5 complex; The nebula appears crossed by a molecular cloud with CO emissions indicated in several studies with the acronym IC 1848-I, and is associated with the infrared radiation source IRAS 02593+6016, coinciding with a maser with H 2 O emissions. Near-infrared observations have identified five sources, the brightest of which, called IRS2, probably coincides with the star responsible for the ionization of the nebula; In general, the five sources are believed to coincide with as many young stellar objects deeply immersed in gas. However, the bipolar shape of Sh2-201 is not real and is due to the presence of dust that obscures it in some parts, making it appear in this shape.
