Description

Image of a portion of the Soul Nebula (Westerhout 5, also known as Sharpless 199 or LBN 667) in Cassiopeia. There are several small open star clusters within the Soul Nebula - CR 34, 632 and 634 (in the head) and IC 1848 (in the body). The small emission nebula , IC 1871, is located within the head and small emission nebulae IC 669 and 670 are located in the "back" area. It is an active star forming region with large cavities carved out by radiation and winds from massive stars. The Soul Nebula is located about 6500 light years from Earth. (Wikipedia)
