Description

It has almost been 1 year since I started Astrophotography and there hasn't been a single image where I haven't learned something new. This is no exception to that.

Shooting IC1805 was a somewhat spontaneous decision. The Rosette was setting and I went out to capture one last session of it. I was delayed in getting to the dark site, and so missed most of what I could have gotten on that target. It was too early to shoot East and into Milky Way targets, as Porteau Cove is at the base of a mountain range and so is blocked up to 35 degrees in that direction, and so I settled on IC1805 in the North which has clear views.

Little did I know that Vancouver gets about 10 minutes of true astronomical darkness in July, and I wasn't really able to start taking pictures to the North until about 11:30pm, and even then the sun was still brightening the Northern sky.

This is 5 sessions, taken in 1-2 hour chunks depending on how late I wanted to stay out ( or could on weeknights ) and across 4 months this spring. Next time I'll save the North targets for the early spring as they are visible year round from Porteau Cove.
