Description

This 4 panel mosaic of the southern Milky May was a backyard test run for the latest iteration of my wide-field imaging setup.

This area contains many of the most iconic regions of the southern galactic plane. From left to right is the Carina Nebula, the Southern Pleiades , the Running Chicken Nebula, the Southern Cross and the Coalsack Nebula.

My latest setup is five Canon 6D + Samyang 135/2 in an array, so I had a few teething issues to work through in capturing these mosaic panels! But the weather was favorable throughout the latest new moon, so by the time I had everything sorted out, I ended up with more data than I needed or ever planned!

My backyard is suburban with decent light pollution, but this is my longest integration yet. On one hand its not the greatest result , but I think it bodes very well for the future imaging at dark sites. The ability to capture 50+ hours of sub-exposures in a single night from a Bortle 1/2 site has me very excited for future mosaic projects.
