Description

Imaged the conjunction of Earth's moon and Mars on the night of December 7/8, 2022.  This image was taken at 10:56 pm EDT on 12/7 near minimum separation as viewed from my location.  This version of the original image (https://astrob.in/hme70l/B/) was rotated and cropped to approximately match the view through the eyepiece on my C8 SCT w/ 2x Barlow (4000 mm FL).  Wow was I excited when I first saw the amazing view of Mars and the Moon in the same field of view...

Imaged with an Astrotech AT60 at F/6 (350 mm focal length), 2.5x Televue Powermate, extension tube from my 5x barlow, and Nikon D750.  This is the same imaging setup I used for the November 2022 lunar eclipse giving me ~875 mm focal length.

Single shot with 1/100 second exposure at ISO-1600.  Processed in Pixinsight:  cropped, generalized hyperbolic stretch, curves transformation, local histogram transformation, color saturation adjustment.  Rotated and cropped using GIMP.  Noise reduction and sharpening using Topaz DeNoise AI.
