Description

This image was inspired by the amazing images from Hubble which found several young solar systems in the process of formation within the Orion Nebula.  I soon realized that I wouldn't be able to resolve those systems with my scope, however it did give me an idea for a new project.

This is not a traditional image of the Orion Nebula as it is only a little over an hour and a half of exposures.  Mainly I wanted to see if I could use my IR pass filter to cut through the dust and see the stars in the core and all of the other ones that have formed inside the nebula.  Much to my surprise it worked surprisingly well.  I didn't expect that I would be able to capture so many of the stars that are topically hidden from our view.  

The main image is a quick RGB composition and the second image is with IR applied as luminance.  Just hover your mouse over the image to flip between them. 

One thing that I didn't realize at the time was that I would find it impossible to take IR flats.  My flat panel at full brightness didn't even register on the sensor. Maybe sky flats during the day may work?
