Description

This is my first attempt at a Milky Way panorama.

It was imaged on our June 2022 trip to Tenerife and La Gomera, specifically from Mt. Teide's caldera at roughly 2100m.

For the stars it consists of 5 panels, each 12 x 30s.
Canon 800Da at ISO1600, Sigma Art 18-35mm F1.8 at 18mm and F2.8.
Star Adventurer 2i.

The foreground was shot at twilight, five untracked panels, exposure settings ISO400 f8 0.25s.

Software: Sequator, Microsoft ICE, PI and GIMP.

Accurate rotation of the camera was achieved by using a MoveShootMove Z bracket attached directly to the vixen dovetail of the SA2i.
Thanks to Alyn Wallace for his great videos on youtube and for making it clear why the Z bracket is so useful.
This provides a horizontal surface - at least before the tracking is turned on - to mount the panning ball head on.
The key thing I learnt is that it helps to be quick - go for overly long exposures and life can become more difficult because of the apparent motion of
the stars may introduce large gaps between the separate panels.

Thanks to:

for help with GIMP.
