Description

PaStDr 9 (PN-G: 140.4-21.2) is a new potential planetary nebula in the constellation Andromeda with a sensational diameter of 1.5 degrees (90 arcminutes). 

Our team consisting of Dana Patchick (USA), Xavier Strottner (France) and Marcel Drechsler (Germany) discovered this candidate planetary nebula early in 2021, but this region of the sky was not accessible to telescopes until late summer.

 I agreed to shoot PaStDr 9 and have spent 129 hours on my 3 Takahashi Epsilon-130D telescopes to reveal even the finest details of this giant. The image processing was done by my pal Marcel Drechsler.

In case of a positive spectroscopic confirmation (with a bit of luck in early November at Calern Observatory, Côte d'Azur), the Titan Nebula would be among the top 3 largest known planetary nebulae with an extent of about 1.5 degrees (90 arc minutes) in the sky. The entire full moon would fit side by side three times in Patchick-Strottner-Drechsler 9. The neighbouring giant Triangulum Galaxy (Messier 33) would also fit comfortably inside the Titan Nebula.
