Description

This is very faint planetary nebula nebula in Cygnus. I didn't know quite what I would get, but did the best I could with about 5 hours of Duoband data around full moon from mid-August and mid-September and 20 minutes of IRCut data just for star colors. It turns out to be a both pretty and a pretty tough object to image at fainter than 16th magnitude.

There isn't any good data on the distance of the nebula that I can find on SIMBAD. There isn't even Gaia data on the distance to a central progenitor star that would give a distance to the nebula, and in fact it's a little hard to tell where the progenitor star is in PanSTARRS or SDSS imagery. There are two stars near, but not at the center. One is visible in all visible and IR bands, while the second star is only visible in IR bands, suggesting its a star shrouded in dust. Given the nebula's size of 2 x 0.5 arc minutes (including to the fainter outer edges) and its faintness, we could guess its older and thus dimmer and fading nebula with a physical size of 1.5 to 2 light years in the longest direction. This would give a distance of roughly 2500 to 3300 light years.

The original image scale was 0.34 arc seconds/pixel. I resampled by 85% scale to 0.4 arc seconds pixel which better shows the subtle tailing off of the nebula to the left and right.
