Description

Took Celestron OAG for a test-drive aimed at NGC3309 to see what got netted. Interesting bits fell way off the center, hence extra poor stars on some edges. To be honest half the time I didn't know what I was doing, PhD2 and EQMOD were bedding to new settings - 1.2m FL, ASI178MC OSC's tiny 2.4 µm pixels which required 4x4 binning to get to decent pixel-scale for guiding. Subs were showing considerable vignetting, clouds imminent. It seems Celestron have the OAG designed for their EdgeHD models in mind, long and the short I was constrained to increase backfocus to 126.85mm  (>> C8's required 105mm) to get the guidecam parfocal to imaging cam. Doing so introduced  strong vignetting near the OAG prism edge of the imaging sensor. Good news, flats and Siril's background extraction completely got rid of the vignetting, hence not a problem. As such case for the 240mm FL guide-scope replacement has been made. GS, may still be handy for light-polluted skies (so not giving it away). Offset 21, asymmetric crop, humidity a lot.
