Description

NGC 4945 is a spiral galaxy in the Centaurus constellation, around 12 million light years from earth.

A defining characteristic of this galaxy is the thick dust lanes/clouds that we see from our vantage point on earth. My goal was to try and highlight those as much as possible.

The reason for all that dust being present is the fact that NGC 4945 is a so called “starburst” galaxy. Very simply put, the galaxy hasn’t used up to majority of its materials (gas, dust,…) in star formation yet. As such, there’s still loads of new stars being formed within it and said process will continue until most of the gas/dust has been used up (or the remains are dissipated enough).
